A Medical Doctor and a Nurse have been arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State, for allegedly forging a death certificate to defraud AIICO Insurance Plc of the sum of N21.8 million (twenty one million, eight hundred thousand naira) between 2018 and 2019.
The Medical Doctor, Salami Tajudeen and the Nurse, Chimeh Sunday, were arraigned before Justice Peter Lifu alongside one Amaka Obionwu by the men of Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), on a five-count charge of conspiracy.
The Defendants were also alleged to have attempted to swindle the Insurance company of N21.8 million and forged a death certificate, Scan report and confirmation of address.
The Prosecutor, Henry Obiaze, told the Court that the Salami, on July 24, 2018, at Ikoyi, Lagos, allegedly forged a Scan Report of the Medical Condition of one Mrs Onwuzuruigbo Uloaku.
It was also alleged that the Nurse, Chimeh, on February 25, 2019, at Lagos, forged the Proof of Death Certificate of the same woman, while Obionwu, forged Mrs. Uloaku’s “Confirmation of Address” on July 24, 2018.
Obiaze further alleged that the Defendants prepared the documents to claim that the said Mrs. Uloaku was dead with intent that AllCO Insurance Plc may use or act upon it as genuine.
The offence, according to the Prosecution, is Contrary to and punishable under Section 8(a), 8(b), of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006. And Section 467 of the Criminal Code.
