No fewer than seven suspected smugglers of petroleum products have been reported burnt to death in a petroleum tanker fire outbreak in Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa.
Mubi is a commercial nerve of Adamawa and it is bordering with the Republic of Cameroon.
An eyes witness, Alhaji Mansur Bala, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
Bala said that the fire brokeout when the deceased were transferring petroleum products from a tanker to over 1,000 plastic jerricans at a filling station.
Another eyewitness, Malam Iliya Haruna, told NAN that he counted seven death bodies that were burnt beyond recognition.
Haruna said that among the death bodies were two paternal brothers who were well known in petroleum business in Mubi.
Dr Mohammed Sulaiman, the Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) has confirmed the incident.
Sulaiman however said that only three people were killed in the incident, while two sustained various degrees of injuries.
“The petroleum tanker fire incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at about 1.30 a. m.
“So far, three people lost their lives and two sustained injuries from fire burns and they are receiving medical treatment at the Mubi General Hospital,” Sulaiman said.

FG: NO VACCINATION PROOF NO ENTRY FROM DEC 1
The Chairman, Presidetial Steering Committee, PSC, on COVID-19, Mr. Boss Mustapha has disclose that
that civil servants would from December 1 present proof of vaccination or negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests conducted within 72 hours to have access to offices.
Mr. Boss Mustapha disclosed this on Wednesday during the presidential press briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja.
Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to Government of the Federation, said that the development was aimed at encouraging vaccination rate across the country.
He said, with effect from Dec. 1, 2021, Federal Government employees shall be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result done within 72 hours.
He stated that this was to gain access to their offices in all locations within Nigeria and the Missions, adding that an appropriate service wide advisory/circular would be issued to guide the process.
“The PSC wishes to put Nigerians on notice that two major religious festivities (Salah and Christmas) are approaching and we shall be experiencing increased passenger traffic in and out of the country.
“Similarly, events of large gatherings are likely to hold. While the PSC prepares to escalate surveillance and other control activities, we urge States and all Nigerians to also increase their vigilance and take measure to moderate activities,” he added
Mustapha said, “Statistics generated over the last four weeks on testing have shown that the trend of infection is going down in some states while in others, the trajectory is upward.
“The combined total for testing by PCR and RDT now stands at about 3, 141, 795 persons.
“The Aviation authorities in collaboration with the diplomatic sector have made reasonable progress in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; discussions are still ongoing with the UAE Authorities to resolve the impasse.
According to him, over several months, four countries were placed on high level restriction for travelers from such countries.
“The PSC has after a review of the developments in these countries, decided to remove South Africa, Turkey, and Brazil from the restricted list.
“The Hon Minister of Aviation today, presented the position of African countries on Vaccine Passport which some economic blocks and countries wish to impose for travel purposes.
“This is because African countries have found it difficult to access the vaccines for their citizens in sufficient number.’’
Mustapha said that ‘’the UK has eased restrictions on fully vaccinated travelers from Nigeria to the UK with effect from Oct. 11.
“Nigeria welcomes this development and assures that the PSC shall continue to review Nigeria’s protocols based on global developments, science and national experience.
“A revised protocol will be issued in the next 24 hours,” he said

Some gunmen on Wednesday abducted a Catholic priest in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria’s South-east, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
NAN reported that an unidentified woman was also abducted the same day in Umuahia.
The abducted priest has been identified as Godfrey Chimezie, serving at St. Theresa Parish, Umuahia.

He said it was not clear yet if the two incidents were carried out by the same gang.
Mr Ogbonna, who said the police were investigating the woman’s abduction, advised the Catholic authorities to make a formal report at any police station around the scene of the incident, on the abduction of the priest.

UNKNOWN VIGILANTE ATTACKS EDO POLICE WHILE RESCUING CHILDREN KIDNAPPED BY HOUSEMAID
Some hoodlums, suspected to be members of a yet to be identified vigilante group have attacked men of the Edo State Police Command who were on a mission to rescue two children stolen in Lagos State and brought to Benin City by a housemaid.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Bello
Kontongs, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, August 28, said operatives, however, rescued the victims who were between 2 and 4 years old respectively.
He stated that Operatives of the Command also arrested the 21-year-old househelp, Precious Mmaduike, who on 23rd August, 2021, allegedly abducted David lbe, 4, and Chizaram, 2, both children of her employer, Mr lbe Phenasus of No. 31 Balogun kuku street, Aguda
Surulere in Lagos State.
The statement said the housemaid was arrested alongside two other suspects; Jane Osas, 35 and 45-year-old John Obasu.
“According to the complainant who also is the father of the children, at about 08:45hrs, his children were given N500 by his wife to buy biscuit outside the compound in Lagos in the company of their housemaid.
“They waited for them to return but they were not forthcoming.
The phone of the housemaid was switched off, all efforts in search of the children and
housemaid proved abortive.
That was when the father immediately reported the situation to Aguda Police Station, Lagos, where it was discovered that the last location of the housemaid before she switched off her mobile was in Benin city, Edo State.
“The complainant decided to come to the police in Edo State for assistance.
Men of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of Edo State Police Command immediately commenced
investigation.
“With the aid of the information gathered from the origin of the abduction and field assets, the
abducted children were rescued on 26/08/2021 at about 1730hrs by the
operatives of the Edo State Police Command, Benin city in a very remote area at Upper Ekewan Road, Benin City with the housemaid and a woman she came to visit with the children.
“The housemaid who met the woman on the internet claimed that the two children belonged to her and they came to Benin City for visit but unknown to the woman that the children are not for her.
The woman had bought gift items and other properties for the children and are currently with the police, the PPRO explained.
According to Kontongs, “while the operatives were on their way to the State Command in Benin city with the rescued children, the suspects and two other children found in the
house, the husband of the woman, one Joseph Obaze raised alarm of kidnapping against the police Operatives which attracted a group of unknown vigilante members who blocked the road”
“The Police Operatives identified themselves to the unknown vigilante group but they went ahead to attack the police operatives with all kinds of weapons, causing bodily injuries to some policemen.”
“Before reinforcement could arrive at the scene, the vigilante group had escaped to an unknown destination.
Efforts are in place by the command to apprehend the vigilante leader and his gang members that attacked the police operatives” the statement disclosed.
The statement added that the Commissioner of Police enjoined all law abiding members of the public to go about their lawful businesses, noting that the command would not allow miscreants in the name of
vigilante group to take over the public space.
“For the police to achieve its mandate of protecting lives and property, the CP enjoins the public to continue to provide useful information to the police about criminals and their activities” Kontongs stated.
