For defiling three girls, one 70-year-old man, Alto Ado, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Jigawa State High Court sitting in Kazaure.
Delivering judgment, the Presiding Judge, Justice Hussaina Adamu held that the evidence presented by the Prosecution Counsel, who called five witnesses, proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt as required by law.
The Judge, Justice noted that the offence of rape was punishable under Section 3 of the Penal Code (Miscellaneous Amendment) Law, 2014.
According to the Prosecution, the accused was arrested on 14th October 2020 for allegedly luring the minors between ages 7 and 9 into an uncompleted building in Kazaure town and forcefully defiled them and was later arrested and charged before the Court.
One Ishaq Abubakar has been arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi on 11 counts charges of cybercrimes.

The Defendant was allegedly was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on August 22, 2020, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on his way to Dubai with 2,863 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and four Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards carefully concealed in parks of noodles.
The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Abubakar Ishaq, on or about 22nd August 2020 at Lagos, within the judicial division of this Honorable Court, received and retained in your possession 10 ATM cards issued in the cardholders, which cards you knew were taken or retained under circumstances which constitute card theft and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 34 of cybercrimes( Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015.”
He was also accused of allegedly receiving a lost Access bank ATM card belonging to one Alamin Bashir Babuga, and kept same in his possession with intent to traffic it to a person other than the card owner, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 33(4) of Cybercrimes( Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty to the charges were read to him and his Counsel, George Ochima, informed the court of a pending application for bail.
Hon. Justice Lifu, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties in like sum, one of who must provide land ownership proof in Lagos while the other must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 14.
The Judge while adjourning commencement of hearing to february 18, 2023 ordered the defendant to be remanded in Ikoyo Correctional Centre in Ikoyi, pending perfection of his bail condition.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to pay Omoyele Sowore, the sum of N2 million over unlawful seizure of his two iphones phone in 2019 when he was arrested.
Delivering judgement, the Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Anwuli Chikere, also ordered the DSS to release the iPhones and the sum of N10,000 which were alleged to have been forcefully taken away from him without court warrant.
The court further ordered the DSS, to tender an apology in two national dailies within two months.
The Court described untenable, illegal and unconstitutional its claim that Sowore’s phones were still under investigation since 2019 over his alleged link with terrorists.
Hon. Justice Chikere held that the forceful seizure of the personal property of Sowore without a valid court order was illegal, unconstitutional, null and void, and gross violation of his fundamental rights as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.
Sowore’s Counsel, Funmi Falana, who filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit, had alleged that the DSS, on Aug. 3, 2019 at a hotel in Lagos, forcefully took away his iPhones and the sum of N10, 000 when he was arrested on allegations bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism.
Funmi Falana urged the to dismiss the preliminary objections and order the return of Sowore’s phones as well as pay N20 million in damages to the applicant.
Officials of Edo State Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV), has arrested one Sunday James, who was allegedly parading himself as a Colonel in the Nigerian Army.
State Coordinator of PUWOV, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, who disclosed this to John in Benin City said the fake military officer was apprehended at the Oba Ovonramwen Square in Benin, with an identification card ofthe Civil Intelligence Agency (CIA).
He accused the fake soldier of intimidating and oppressing residents and traders of the area, adding that the fake soldier was arrested following intelligence reports and complaints from the residents of the area.
Yusuf-Osagie disclosed that the suspect who was wearing a military uniform with a fake identity card as at the time of his arrest, has been handed over to the Oba market police division for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“The suspect was arrested following a tip-off that he had been presenting himself as a serving soldier in the area for a while, and had been intimidating and harassing residents, traders and other persons at Oba Ovonranmen Square, Benin, and its environs.”Yusuf-Osagie added.
Three students allegedly fingered in the death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni Junior of Dowen College Lekki, have been arrestedby men of the Lagos State Police Command.
Lagos State commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu disclosed that three key suspects of the five students mentioned by Sylvester before his death, were already in custody and cooperating with the police in their investigation.
While assuring that the Lagos and Delta state Police Commands are interested in would stop at noting to unravel the mystery surrounding the boy’s death, emphasizing that the Command is ready to conduct post mortem of Sylvester’s body in Delta state with the aim of ascertaining the cause ofdeath.
Gunmen suspected to be bandits have burnt some of passengers traveling from Sabon Birni local government area to Sokoto town.
It was gathered that he incident occurred around Gidan Bawa village at about 9am where the bandits barricaded the road and set the vehicle ablaze.
confirming the incident, Sokoto State Police spokesperson, ASP Sanusi Abubakar noted that the vehicle was carrying 24 passengers and that those killed might be about 17, while 7 of them were admitted in an undisclosed hospital.
Four students of the Delta State University, (DELSU) Abraka, who recently wrote their final examination, have been allegedly kidnapped by gunmen.
It was gathered that five others whose identities were yet-to-be ascertained, were also kidnapped by the gunmen along Eku- Abraka Road, Ethiope East Local government area of Delta State.
Amongst those kidnapped were; Arogbo Harriet Seyifunmi, Azunobi Prosper, Miracle Etavbwobor Robert (all 500 level students of the Department of SLT Chemistry as well as Adegor Aghogho Hapiness, a 500 level student of Electrical Engineering.
The kidnappers were said to have demanded N5 million as ransom to effect the release of the nine victims.
Reacting, President, DELSU Students Union Government (SUG), Comrade Solomon Mukoro, condemned the abduction and described the abduction as a shame to both the security agencies and the state government.
In a statement on Tuesday made available to Journalists, the SUG President said “The alarming abduction of students is very shameful to the state government and security agencies; that they have done nothing to stop the recent attacks on students and citizens, after reports and official complains have been made about the Eku-Abraka expressway”.
Comrade Mukoro called on the Delta State government to wake up, develop and deploy new strategies to deal with insecurity and kidnapping in the state, especially the recent kidnappings along Abraka-Eku expressway.
“We are in constant communication with the Police department and state DSS, and we are working together with them to save the abducted students in the shortest time possible.” Comrade Mukoro added.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, when contacted, confirm the incident, adding that operatives of the command were on the trail of the kidnappers.
Angry youths have reportedly burnt down a building belonging to a Pastor attached to the Redeemed Christian Church in Adebun Area of Ado-Ekiti over a missing seven-year-old girl found in the house.
According to reports, Demilade was sent on an errand by her parents to buy pap before she was allegedly ambushed and butchered by the daughter of the pastor who was believed to be mentally deranged.
The parents of Demilade were said to have raised an alarm when she could not be found.
The alarm triggered residents to embark on search until the lifeless body was allegedly found in the pastor’s house on Monday, after the matter was reported at a nearby Police Station in Adehun Area of Ado-Ekiti by the parents, and Demilade was declared missing by the Police.
The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident to Newsmen on Tuesday, said a suspect had been arrested in connection to the murder.
“The dead body of the girl had been recovered and deposited at the morgue.
“The CP had directed that the matter be investigated thoroughly.
“We are studying and extracting information from the suspect in our custody and we shall inform the members of the public about our findings when we are through.”the PPPRO stated.

Two suspected armed robbers have been gunned down by Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have quelled along Owerri Road in Onitsha.
The state commissioner of police, CP Echeng Eworo Echeng, disclosed this to newsmen in Awka.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, who disclosed this to Newsmen on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Eworo Echeng assured the citizens ofwatertight security before, during and after the festive season.
According to the statement, ” On 5th December, 2021, at about 0530 hours Anambra Police Command Operatives intercepted a three-man armed robbery gang operating around idemili flyover, Obosi by Onitsha-Owerri Roaad.”
“The hoodlums who were about to rob passengers travelling in a Toyota Sienna van opened fire on sighting the police.”
“The operatives responded swiftly gunning down two armed suspects, later identified as Chinedu Okeri ‘M’ from Enugu and Chukwuebuka Orizu from Anambra State while the third suspect, Abuchi Osim ‘M’ from Enugu State was arrested.”
The PPRO disclosed that two locally made Pistols, five cartridges and the tricycle the hoodlums rode to scene of crime were recovered by the Police while other suspected gang members;Chinedu Ogunna ‘M’ 21yrs, Arinze Chukwu ‘M’ 16yrs and Ebuka Ayazie ‘M’ 18yrs were arrested in a follow-up operation.
An Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti, has condemned and sentencedone 24-year-old, Olorunleke Ebenezer, to death by hanging for killing his own brother.
According to the charge by the Prosecution, Ebenezer, on 29/8/2019 at Abe Cocoa Area, Housing Estate, Oke-Ila Ado Ekiti, conspired with others now at large to rob his brother, Olorunleke Sunday, of his Bajaj motorcycle and the sum of N40, 000, while armed with a knife which they used in killing him.
Delivering judgement, Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Bamidele Omotoso, held that the prosecution had discharged the burden of proof beyond reasonable doubt as required by law on the charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and murder brought against Olorunleke Ebenezer.
The Court noted the evidence of a Prosecution witness to the effect that he went to the Ebenezer’s house to inform him of his brother’s death, but was surprised to injuries on his body was unable to explain how he got injuries on his body.
The convict was consequently arrested by the Police, who upon investigation discovered that the defendant had sold all his properties and was about to abscond with the deceased motorcycle before he was arrested.
The offences contravened sections 6 (b), 1 (2) (a) of the robbery and firearms (special Provisions) Act, Cap R11, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and section 316 and punishable under section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
