
A suspected Police vehicle with smuggled foreign rice, has been impounded by men if the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command.
The Command’s Controller, Bamidele Makinde, who disclosed this, Tuesday, while briefing newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital said, the Hillux van, with police number plate, PF 10889 SPY, was arrested with 27 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice, while the driver fled upon sighting Cutoms Officers.
“As it is, it will be communicated to Abuja. The NCS headquarters has the final say on what happens to it. If it is found to be a police vehicle, it is only Abuja that can release it to the police authority,” Makinde stated.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command says the number plate attached to the vehicle impounded by the men of the Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs service is fake and has no bearing with the Police.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a Press Release emphasized, that no Police vehicle carries such number plate with registration number PF 10889 SPY.
Abimbola added that the Nigeria Custom Services could have contacted the Police authorities to unravel the true ownership of the Hilux van.
