GUNMEN KIDNAPS DELSU STUDENTS, REQUESTS N5M RANSOM

Four students of the Delta State University, (DELSU) Abraka, who recently wrote their final examination, have been allegedly kidnapped by gunmen.

It was gathered that five others whose identities were yet-to-be ascertained, were also kidnapped by the gunmen along Eku- Abraka Road, Ethiope East Local government area of Delta State.

Amongst those kidnapped were; Arogbo Harriet Seyifunmi, Azunobi Prosper, Miracle Etavbwobor Robert (all 500 level students of the Department of SLT Chemistry as well as Adegor Aghogho Hapiness, a 500 level student of Electrical Engineering.

The kidnappers were said to have demanded N5 million as ransom to effect the release of the nine victims.

Reacting, President, DELSU Students Union Government (SUG), Comrade Solomon Mukoro, condemned the abduction and described the abduction as a shame to both the security agencies and the state government.

In a statement on Tuesday made available to Journalists, the SUG President said “The alarming abduction of students is very shameful to the state government and security agencies; that they have done nothing to stop the recent attacks on students and citizens, after reports and official complains have been made about the Eku-Abraka expressway”.

Comrade Mukoro called on the Delta State government to wake up, develop and deploy new strategies to deal with insecurity and kidnapping in the state, especially the recent kidnappings along Abraka-Eku expressway.

“We are in constant communication with the Police department and state DSS, and we are working together with them to save the abducted students in the shortest time possible.” Comrade Mukoro added.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, when contacted, confirm the incident, adding that operatives of the command were on the trail of the kidnappers.
