KANU PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO THE 15-COUNT AMMENDED CHARGES

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has pleaded not guilty to the 15 count ammended charges of treasonable felony and terrorism, slammed on him by the Federal Government.

After taking the plea, the Prosecution Counsel, Shuaibu Labaran, informed the court that he was ready to proceed with the trial as two of his witnesses were present in court..

Kanu’s lead Counsel, Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN), objected to the application on the grounds that he has two pending applications filed the previous day challenging the competence of the ammended charges as well as the jurisdiction of the court to hear and determine the matter.

Ozekhome, SAN, who described said the entire counts as watery, baseless and will fall like a pack of cards, submitted that he had on Tuesday evening, filed a 43-page preliminary objection which is aimed sniffing life out of the entire charges.

In a short ruling, presiding Judge of the Federal Holiday Court, Abuja, Hon. Justice Binta Nyako, held that Kanu’s first application challenging the propriety of his trial, as well as the competence of the charge against him, the court must first be heard..

The court then adjourned till February 16 to hear the pending application.
