It was “judgment day” for two youngmen, alleged to be specialists in robbing Point Of Sales(POS) Operators as some angry youths of Ikot Oku Ikono, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, set them ablaze following a failed POS operation in the neighbourhood.
He said the POS attendant raised the alarm which caught the attention of some youths of the area who swooped on the alleged theives beat them up mercilessly, got some abandoned tyres around and consequently set them ablaze before the arrival of the Police.
According to a source, one of the two youngmen who alighted from a motorcycle approached a lady POS Attendant at gunpoint and demanded for the cash proceeds of the day’s business.
The source disclosed that he lady handed her handbag containing money and other personal effects to the gunman, adding that luck, however, ran out of them when the motorcycle failed to start which made the lady to raise distress alarm.
Reacting, the Akwa Ibom state Commissioner of Police, Amienghemwe Andrew, through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, warned residents of the State to avoid taking the laws into their hands by dispensing jungle justice on criminal suspects.
He urged the people to always hand over suspects to relevant security agency for investigation and Prosecution.
