24-year-old To Die By Hanging For Killing Brother

An Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti, has condemned and sentenced one 24-year-old, Olorunleke Ebenezer, to death by hanging for killing his own brother.
According to the charge by the Prosecution, Ebenezer, on 29/8/2019 at Abe Cocoa Area, Housing Estate, Oke-Ila Ado Ekiti, conspired with others now at large to rob his brother, Olorunleke Sunday, of his Bajaj motorcycle and the sum of N40, 000, while armed with a knife which they used in killing him.
Delivering judgement, Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Bamidele Omotoso, held that the prosecution had discharged the burden of proof beyond reasonable doubt as required by law on the charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and murder brought against Olorunleke Ebenezer.
The Court noted the evidence of a Prosecution witness to the effect that he went to the Ebenezer’s house to inform him of his brother’s death, but was surprised to injuries on his body was unable to explain how he got injuries on his body.
The convict was consequently arrested by the Police, who upon investigation discovered that the defendant had sold all his properties and was about to abscond with the deceased motorcycle before he was arrested.
The offences contravened sections 6 (b), 1 (2) (a) of the robbery and firearms (special Provisions) Act, Cap R11, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and section 316 and punishable under section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
