GUNMEN BEHEADS VIGILANTE COMMANDER

Some gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed and beheaded the former commander of a disbanded local vigilante group, OSPAC, in Umudioga, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The former Commander of the disbanded local security outfit, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Security Peace and Advisory Council (OSPAC), identified as Alex Uwazuruike, was reportedly killed and beheaded and the corpse was thereafter burnt to ashes by the assailants on Tuesday, July 27.

Following the development, residents have reportedly fled the community.

Nnamdi Omoni, the Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said normalcy have been restored to the area by the Police.

Communities in Emohua local government Council area have witnessed cult clashes and pockets of other criminal activities, leading to the formation of the local vigilante group which restored sanity, to the pockets of criminal activities, especially the constant abduction of travellers and robberies on the axis of the East-West road.

The security outfit was later disbanded by the immediate past local government Council Chairman, Tom Aliezi, about five months it over alleged links with cult related violence.

Emohua Local Government Chairman, Dr Chidi Lloyd, about a fortnight ago, condemned in strong terms, the alleged illegal activities some members of the OSPAC in parts of the LGA, especially in Rundele community.
