GOV. OBASEKI INSPECTS EDO MEDICAL STORES AFTER HOODLUMS’ ATTACK

Edo state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has expressed worry over Saturday’s looting at the Edo Medical Stores in Benin City.

Mr. Obaseki who visited the place in company of his Deputy, Hon. Philip Saibu, the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire and the state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, said the wharehouse is where Medical and hospital supplies that feeds the whole hospital network system in the state are kept.

He emphasized that the people who use the hospitals are not the healthiest but the poorest.

The Governor who described the act as wicked, said the amount of destruction when quantified after assessment, will sure run into millions of naira and that the health care system is very weak while the state is doing her best to strengthen same with assistance from the federal Government.

” This destruction shows and tells you that this is not the intention of the #EndSARS protesters, there is more to it. We will get to the root of the matter” Obaseki said.

Speaking, the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire called on those who are in possession of items that cannot be eaten to return same to be used or destroyed professionally because some of the medications are harmful to the body.

He described the situation as a great setback to the state and that the#EndSRAS protesters will not be happy over the development..

On his part, the state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, disclosed that over fifty persons have been arrested in connection with the looting and destruction.

Kokumo said, the hoodlums carted away the few food pallatives and thereafter, switched to the Medical equipment.

He disclosed that the police authorities was yet to confirm whether or not anyone suffered from gunshot injuries.
